Tenerife – 2019

Wayhay, we finally booked up a holiday – for various reasons we had to pick November, and given a balance between flight time and heat, we opted for the Caneries.

After spending ages looking at hotels, for a pure experience the Hard Rock Hotel seemed to be the one to choose – so booked up with On the Beach, who did a pretty a good price and our 7 days were boked.

Day 1 Tues – travel.

Its quite a long way to Tenerife, about 2000 miles so it was going to be quite a long day. Flight was at 07:00, so up before 04:00 and in the airport at Bristol just after 05:00. Checkin was quick, and before we knew it, we were tucking into the standard early flight Burger King.

Flight had a bit of a tail wind, but the collection on the other side was poor, but we got through and our “taxi” picked us up and took us to Playa Pariaso and the hotel. The taxi was a great big minibus, with just us – nice one.

The guys on the door took our luggage, and we had a little vodka welcome drink – which was a tiny round thing, that once you out in your mouth “explodes” into Vodka – odd.

Rooms not ready until 15:00, so we had a couple of hours to kill, so we had a look around – which basically involved a few drinks in a couple of the bars. Beer in the top one was 4:50, 5:00 in the bottom one, and we would later find 5:50 in the very top one!

Once we got our key, which was actually a wristband which you wore all the time you were there and was used to get in, and also to any for food and drinks on site – we stepped into our room. It was pretty big (50m2) with a massive bed and balcony, with a really great view over the sea. One odd feature of the rooms are that they have the sink in it, then a door to the shower and toilet – so everything is sort of in the room (including the whirlpool bath) – luckily it was just us, if Kate had come this may have proved a bit of a problem as there wasn’t much privacy.

Most of the day was crashed out, first of many visits to the supermarket over the road and a pretty hot and spicy Vindaloo in the Indian across the way.

Day 2 Weds – Exploring.

Well a little – we went for an early breakfast, and there was a fair old choice – my fav’s being omelette and chicken kebab. It was certainly a “back to the buffet three times” kind of brekkie, and really filled us up for the day.

After we sat around the pool, and after a few hours of general, slightly rocky music, at midday, there was half hour of AC/DC which was nice. Once they had finished we walked around the coast to the next little village, and after checking out the food places four times we finally decided on a tapas place, and had some bits of bread with some specialties on – it was surprising good, and although quite small, was plenty sufficient for lunch.

Exploring completed we headed back to the hotel and had a doss on the balcony. At about 18:00 we went to the 16th floor bar, which is outside on the very top of the hotel, and it a bit of  cocktail place. It was a bit cool by then, so we had one drink and then back down inside…

Day 3 Thurs – Cristianos

Day 4 Fri – Tapas
