Too fast, too soon…

Ok, so yesterday was a one off.

Went out tonight and thought that I would only do 2 miles, but speed it up a little bit – mucho bad idea. I was knackered.

Managed to get back, and managed 2 miles in just over 16 minutes which obviously isnt fast, but faster than normal –  however it really knackered me out. Perhaps because of the longer than required run yesterday I should have been a little easier – lesson learnt…..

As Mr Marr mentioned yesterday I think I need to be looking at some stretching and other stuff, now that I can run further than the end of the street.

Two days off now, woohoo, probably going to run to Caldicot on Sunday, but out to brother in laws on Sat so may have a shandy too many ;o)

  1. As Marsey has suggested plenty of stretching before hand including the groin and hip region (often forgotten). Also very important as you increase you runs and frequency to rehydrate with the appropriate energy drink. The Lucozade range (more extensive than you could ever imagine) will have drinks for pre-event, during and after (recovery drinks). Chocolate milk is a good one for recovery.
One other tip which you in particular will find useful is to ensure that when drinking beer you squeeze in the odd water aswell. you’ll still have a good time but you will feel lots better for it the next day. Another bit of advice would be to wear some support shorts whilst your body is adjusting to the new found regime of running. This will help alleviate groin strains and hip pain.

  2. Hodzy sounds to me youre doing pretty good. 2 miles in 16 min is good thats an 8 minute mile keep it up for 26 miles and you’ll be home in no time. Tip for running in the winter -get thermal under garments and wear layers rather than thick jogging tops. Make sure you dont overtrain or you’ll get injured – I’ve just knackered my ankle ! PK
